About Achievements – Restoration of Kvetera Church
Kvetera Church (Georgian: კვეტერის ეკლესია) is located on the top of a hill within the remaining fragments of the walls of Kvetera Fortress near the town of Akhmeta, in Kakheti region. Built in the early part of the 10th century, it is a relatively small church built of local tuffa stone to a tetraconch design (four-apse cross with four niches between apses). The facade of the church lacks extensive ornamentation, which is typical for Kakhetian churches.
Restoration of the church began in 2013.
The design of the church was influenced by the Old Shuamta domed church, located near the city of Telavi in Kakheti region, but is smaller.
The restoration was completed in 2014.
The church is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
