About Achievements – Georgian Song in Space
The Georgian “Chakrulo” song (Georgian: ჩაკრულო), which is sung at celebrations and festivals, was sent into space on the Voyager space craft in 1977. The Voyager Golden Record contains 116 images and a variety of natural sounds, musical selections from different cultures and eras, and spoken greetings in fifty-nine languages.
The disc is the space equivalent of a message in a bottle, a greeting for any prospective life forms that may come across the probe. In 2013, the space probe and its Golden Record officially left our solar system and is now journeying through interstellar space.
Georgian music has a unique place in the history of world culture and was among the first on the list of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2001.
