The Georgian Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in the village of Birkiani in Akhmeta municipality in Georgia’s Kakheti region was built in the 8th-9th century but has decayed over time and little remains of the original stone construction.
Trees have grown on top of the church making it look like it was purposely built in the tree hollows.
Surrounded by woodland, the remains of the church are silent testimony to the power of nature.
The church is located 300 meters west of the village of Birkiani in Akhmeta municipality, 2 miles (20 km) north east of the town of Akhmeta and 42 miles (68 km) north east of Tbilisi.
