The first printed book in Georgian was published in Rome in 1629 by Niceforo Irbachi (Nicholas Irubakidze-Cholokashvili) (Georgian: ნიკოლოზ ჩოლოყაშვილი; ნიკოლოზ ირუბაქიძე-ჩოლოყაშვილი), a Georgian Orthodox priest, politician and diplomat.
