About Events – New Wine Festival Tbilisi 2014
On May 24, the Georgian Wine Club hosted the annual New Wine Festival held at the Giorgi Chitaia Open Air Museum of Ethnography (Georgian: გიორგი ჩიტაიას სახელობის ეთნოგრაფიული მუზეუმი ღია ცის ქვეშ) in Tbilisi.
The festival featured a wide range of wines from large companies and wine cellars as well as family wines from different wine-producing regions of Georgia.
New Wine Festivals are held in most of the world’s famous wine-producing countries.
Grape varieties represented at the festival included: Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Mtsvane Kakhuri, Tsitska, Tsolikouri, Chinuri, Shavkapito, Tavkveri, Krahuna, Aleksandrouli, Chkhaveri, Usakhelouri, Khikhvi, Kisi, Aladasturi, Otshanuri Sapere, Dzelshavi, Mudzhuretuli, Ojaleshi, Kundza, Grdzelmtevana, Chumuta, and Chitiskhvertsha.
In addition to tasting Georgian wines, visitors could watch a demonstration of traditional pottery.
No Georgian festival would be complete without a barbecue!
Local musicians from Jazz Quartet IrReSoNic and Folk Ensemble Akhlukhlebi entertained the crowds.
The festival is now in its fifth year.
