About Architecture – Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue, Tbilisi

Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue (Georgian: დავით აღმაშენებლის გამზირი) is named after David IV of Georgia and is located in an historic district of Tbilisi close to the left embankment of the Mtkvari River. Much of the area was built by the German contractor Friederich Vezel in the 1880s. It is one of the most popular shopping streets in Tbilisi and recently underwent extensive restoration.

  1. How beautiful. I feel like I’ve just stepped back in time. That’s definitely the prettiest police station I’ve ever seen

I was born and raised in that area (former Plekhanov Ave.) , but it had never occurred to me until after restoration it was so beautiful…. I was pretty much impressed when I visited the city back in 2012.

this was one of my favourite streets and areas when i lived in tbilisi in 2000-2003 – intrinsically beautiful even then – stunning now – what an amazing change; so proud of Tbilisi transformation in past 10 years

If you excuse my curiosity, Bassa… Are you Georgian or an expat living in Georgia?
If you’re an expat, and are fond of Georgian traditional music you may find the facebook page of Darbazi interesting. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Darbazi/193665383164
There are also some videos of concert performances of Darbazi in Georgia and Canada…:
Darbazi is a Canadian choir that focuses exclusively on performing traditional music from Georgia. We’re based in Toronto, and currently made up of two women and nine men – only two of whom are from Georgia.

There is a great British Georgian folk choir called “Maspindzeli”. Somehow English tend to link to Georgia better than other European nations 🙂
