About Development – Renovated Svaneti
Georgia About aims to show you the best of Georgian culture and the arts, food and wine, history, and the best of places to visit but the best of Georgia is not all in the past. Georgia is developing fast and bringing the best of the modern world and its technology to Georgia to enhance the lives of its people and their environment.
Georgia About will regularly post news about development projects that are improving life in Georgia.
We start with an exciting and innovative project in Svaneti. Svaneti (Georgian: სვანეთი) is a mountainous region situated in the northwestern part of the country.
Surrounded by 3,000–5,000 meter peaks, Svaneti is the highest inhabited area in the Caucasus.
The region is known for its architectural treasures and magnificent landscapes. It has dozens of Georgian Orthodox churches and various fortified towers built in the 9th-12th centuries.
In September 2011 a project to improve services and transport links was completed and the Svans, as the people of Svaneti are called, now benefit from a new Justice House, a police building, a hostel, a new bridge and a 136 kilometer road.

The new Justice House building was designed by the German architect – Jurgen Mayer. The design has the form of a mountain and is sympathetic to the Svaneti environment.

That is all really nice and that scenery in front of the highway is gorgeous. Hugs
Is the wavy building by the police station part of the police station or is it a different view of the justice center?

I am in love with the justice building and the police station, that architecture is amazing.
It is very striking! I like the bridge too.
It seems a good fit for the area, at least to me. Often some architecture doesn’t blend well will the surrounding area, these seem to work very well
Those curves of the Police Station is amazing! Very modern architecture!!! 🙂
I like it because it is modern but sympathetic to the environment.
I believe you live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world!!!
Thank you Chuck, I think so too!
